Workshop explores HIV patterns among migrants in Myanmar / Burma and beyond

There is a wonderful typo: vulnerability is replaced by venerability. But the transborder issues are vague in this article.

Myanmar's PMCT programme stars in the UN General Assembly

This UN General Assembly record is posted in full for your reading pleasure. The [him] moderator had to laugh when the representative from Myanmar could only come up with the national PMCT programme as the best that Myanmar could do. “In the health sector, the “Prevention of Mother-to—Child Transmission Programme” was launched with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other organizations to combat HIV/AIDS.” Myanmar's PMCT programme is probably one of the weakest programmes in the country. But how would he know that? And how does UNICEF feel about being referred to just before a denial of sexual assault by the army?

Foreign Affairs authors need to take an AIDS 101 course

“Even allowing for poetic licence, this paragraph has absurd assertions. Drug traffickers do not distribute needles with HIV on them. HIV incidence is not increasing in Thailand and the border region of Laos is not noting an increase. The [him] moderator hopes the authors of this article know more about diplomacy than they do about HIV. Their credibility is at stake.”

Our voice is not being heard

Remember the Avaaz email petition that went around two weeks ago? How good it felt to think we were doing something by signing it? Ricken Patel of Avaaz wrote me today that the petition has not yet been presented to the UN or China.
