This document outlines the economic circumstances of sex work in Ye. An answer is given to the question in the title “Why Women Become Sex Workers”. But the deeper issues are much more complex.

The [him] moderator hopes that the KIO officials do not really think that sexual promiscuity and drug addiction cause HIV infection. One can have hundreds of different sexual partners and be sick with drug dependence for many years without being infected. Sterile injecting equipment and condoms are needed. It is good to see that they are being distributed on the KIO's watch.

The [him] moderator is not sure how sex workers “pouring into” a place leads to a “gradual increase”. But this article confirms that sex work on this border is active. And an Indian NGO is on to it.

Alcohol consumption is linked to HIV acquisition and transmission. The World Health Organization is working on a draft global strategy to reduce harmful use of alcohol which has about one hundred policy possibilities including this narrow one. It even has harm reduction in it! Read it below.
