The results of the trial and the hype surrounding it

Of course antiretroviral treatment of one heterosexual partner decreases the chances of transmission to the other regular partner. We aleady knew this from previous trials. People living with the virus have a right to treatment anyway. Why all the hype? … Thanks to the people at SEA-AIDS for sharing the news about the trial. And thanks to the author of the following opinion piece for questioning its significance.

Global annual incidence is decreasing even without new WHO guidelines

The Director General of the World Health Organization appears to be misinformed. New infections are decreasing globally. Put another way, the yearly number of new infections are aleady decreasing. She says this: “On the prevention side, we have new WHO treatment guidelines that offer the first real prospect of reducing the yearly number of new infections.” … If new infections are already being reduced, then why does she say that new treatment guidelines offer the first real prospect of reducing them? This sounds like she is misinformed or engaging in hyperbole. Or is the [him] moderator missing something?
