MORE funding and greater efforts are needed to fight HIV in Myanmar, especially among children, a senior official from the United Nations Children’s Fund, said last month.

“Advocacy used to be a very inexact form of communication, based on the idea that publicizing a cause would raise awareness, change public opinion and influence decision-making on higher levels.

“For the second time in a couple of months we are treated to an MSF story that oversimplifies the challenges of increasing the number of people living with HIV taking antiretroviral therapy.

One hopes that the first lesson will be how to determine if young people are truly at higher risk of HIV or if older people are.
