Building health centres is a great way to increase the burn rate of 3MDG Fund money. A shame that the money is not being used for transformative programming: harm reduction, sustainable immunisation solutions, human resources for health.
Is the UHC initiative to begin or end in 2030?

With the aim to implement the Universal Health Coverage programme for rural people, the Health Ministry is building 78 rural healthcare centres across Myanmar in cooperation with the Three Millennium Development Goal Fund (3 MDG).
3 MDG aims to provide health care services for needy people in rural areas, who struggle to get the treatment need.
Around 70 per cent of Myanmar’s population lives in rural areas. The health ministry is building 1,684 rural health care centres and 8,538 health care branches employing a total of 18,195 ordinary medical staffs and mobile health teams.
According to a health ministry report, Myanmar has 1,065 hospitals, including specialised, teaching and station hospitals, offering 48,423 beds.
The health ministry plans to implement the Universal Health Coverage programme nationwide starting in 2030. However, the programme is difficult to implement because of Myanmar’s shortage of medical staff.
The ministry has drawn up a 30-year long-term plan for Universal Health Coverage. However, the health ministry has already faced many challenges related to the scarcity of medical staff and basic infrastructure while implementing the programme.
