TRAINING ON COMMUNICATION AND REPORT WRITING FOR NATIONAL MYANMAR DRUG USER NETWORK AND HAARP STAFF
In keeping with HAARP’s principle of ‘Nothing for us without us’, a structured approach to supporting and building the capacity of drug-user organizations has commenced. As part of the Myanmar CP’s ongoing support to the Myanmar National Drug User network, a need for improving written and oral communication skills among network members was identified. Due to difficulties in getting entry visas for the consultants, this training was held in Bangkok with logistical support from the TSU. Some CP staff from Cambodia and Myanmar also joined this training. The training was rated very highly by all 20 participants and there are plans to repeat it in Cambodia in the near future.
DEVELOPING BETTER SYSTEMS FOR SAFE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF NEEDLES AND SYRINGES IN MYITKYINA, NORTHERN SHAN STATE
HAARP Myanmar program officer, Dr Zar Ni Soe and Technical Advisor, Mr Palani Narayanan undertook a visit to Myitkyina to look at mechanisms for safe collection and disposal of used needles and syringes. As a result of this trip, HAARP Myanmar has now developed a working relationship with the State Hospital in Myitkyina City to renovate the hospital incineration system and support its maintenance. The Myitkyina drop-in centre will incinerate all used needles and syringes at this hospital once the renovation is complete.
