A rant ...
Fifteen years of heavy promotion and investment in TB/HIV programmes by WHO and what have we got? Different situations in countries with different burdens of the two diseases.
Co-location of services for TB and HIV in a few countries. Good for co-infected patients for a few months.
Slowly increased diagnosis of the second disease in the presence of the first one. Better HIV testing of new TB patients and better TB diagnosis in people living with HIV.
A little bit of IPT among people living with HIV.
As more people living with HIV are on antiretroviral treatment, they will have less TB and the need for TB/HIV programmes will decrease.
We have reached peak TB/HIV. It is time to let it fade away.
