The AIDS Candlelight Memorial in 2005 was only a small commemoration led by a GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS) group which has since changed its name to MPG or the Myanmar Positive Group. In 2006 there was Open Campaign at Sein Lan So Pyay Garden beside  Innya Lake. It became the first known AIDS Candlelight Memorial event in Myanmar. It has become an annual event.

This year there will be an AIDS Candlelight Memorial Event on 24th May, 2011 at Judson Center, Yangon.

This event is collaboratively organisaed by 7 Networks on HIV including:
1) MSM Network
2) SWIM Network ( Sex Workers In Myanmar )
3) Women Network
4) IDUs Network
5) MPG ( Myanmar Positive Network)
6) 3N ( National NGOs Network on HIV/AIDS )
7) MINA ( Myanmar Interfaith Network on AIDS )
