"This reminds me of the wise words of Jeffrey Weeks ('Sexuality and its Discontents', 1985), who described the following paradox:
On the one hand we accept that sexuality is in a constantly in a flux, is flexible, malleable and social. But by adhering to or promoting identity categories (like gay, transgender, bisexual, etc), we 'fix' sexuality in predefined forms and shapes - with usually only a few options.
So while we try to be liberating, by giving ourselves only a few 'identity options' we can be rather restricting... This is what the anonymous person below seems to refer to!"
