APPEAL TO UN agencies, INGOs and national/local NGOs in Burma: PLEASE ACT NOW!

In deep solidarity with the peaceful demonstrators in Burma, we are appealing to you to act and support the democratic movement. We are members of the movement and civil society networks, and we are searching for all positive means to rise above the situation.

We are extremely concerned that the current situation can further deteriorate the already difficult economic and social situation of the people. People are becoming even more vulnerable. We are concerned that this will also affect the security of the people, and that it can lead to more frustration and unintentional unrest, violence and looting. SPDC will use this as a pretext for further crackdown as SLORC did in 1988. To prevent this for happening and to give protection to the people, you have an important role to play.

Your organisation has long experience in addressing the crisis in Burma through humanitarian assistance and development aid. What is happening now is also of humanitarian concern, but now is the time to put this into a political context.

You have the resources, ability, capacity, access and national network needed to support all possible strategies. Today is the time to act immediately to address the root cause and support the rightful aspiration of the people.

Please direct all your positive energy in this time of crises to support and encourage the peaceful democracy movement in Burma both in the cities and rural areas to prevent the situation to become even worse. Food, water, communication, transport, accurate information, medicine and moral support are needed to keep the peaceful protests going until we achieve change. You can set up shelters and centres, as well as assist in communication.

We encourage you to be flexible and courageous, be alert, and abide by your mandate. We are aware that you are running a risk in doing so, but the people are now fearless and ready to do everything necessary to achieve their goal of democracy and human rights in Burma.

We are all united in this struggle, and we are praying for a peaceful transition to democracy in the near future. If we don??t act now, this will be an indirect contribution to the current atrocities.

Please act now!

On behalf of the movement and civil society network,

Australian Japanese & US secret agencies are working together to eliminate the corrupt old men and their shameful families now leading the country to ruin. The Sangha must remain true to the Dharma and not take up arms. The ordinary people must be protected by all means.
