New Gen in Myanmar: Leadership Short-course for Young Key Affected Population
UNESCO is working for HIV prevention education among young people, including young key affected population (YKAP). We are pleased to announce that “New Gen in Myanmar: Leadership Short-course for Young Key Affected Population” will be conducted in Yangon from 19th to 23rd of November.
This five day course is developed for emerging young leaders in HIV response, many of whom come from key affected populations (men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who inject drugs, people who sell sex and people living with HIV). The purpose of the training is to equip the participants with capabilities to be able to play a greater role at the country level response and to prepare them with the necessary skills to become future leaders in HIV response.
Training Dates
19.11.12 to 23.12.11 (8.30 am to 5.00pm)
Participants Criteria
• Age-18 to 27 years
• Young people from key affected population (Men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who use drugs, people who sell sex, people living with HIV) and those working for young key affected population
• Able to attend full course of training and able to travel to Yangon
Training venue
Central Hotel, No. 335-357, Bogyoke Aung San Road, Yangon
Number of participants
Maximum 30 participants
(If more than 30 apply, priority will be given to those who apply first)
Training fee and other costs
Training is free for all participants.
Lunch and tea will be provided to all participants during training period.
For participants who attend from townships other than Yangon, transportation cost, daily allowance (as UNESCO standard rate) and accommodation will be provided.

Background of New Gen
New Gen Leadership short-course is developed by Associate Professor Helen Cahill, Youth Research Centre, University of Melbourne, Australia working in partnership with Youth Lead, Asia Pacific Network of Young Key Affected Population. Funding support for development of this training was provided by UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNESCO Regional offices.
Training of Trainers was conducted at UNESCO office in Bangkok from 1st to 8th of September and 3 participants from Myanmar attended. New Gen in Myanmar will be led by these 3 young leaders, Youth Lead and UNESCO. It will be conducted in Myanmar language.
