I am sure that many consumers of sugary drinks in Myanmar are interested to see what action the FDA has taken against companies that add these chemicals to their products.

Eleven brands of soft drinks being sold in local markets are unfit for human consumption as they contain banned chemical dyes, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Myanmar said.
The FDA on Monday identified the drinks as Jelly soft drinks (violet, pink and red), soft drinks (orange) without a brand, Cola soft drinks (red), soft drinks (pink) without a brand, soft drinks (green) without a brand, Fruit drink juice (orange), Pineapple juice (violet), and soft drinks (orange) without a brand. They were found to contain Rhodamine B and Orange II.
According to the FDA, the banned dyes can cause negative effects such intestinal inflammation, vomiting and nervous disorder. In the long run, they can disrupt body growth and damage liver and kidneys and cause cancer.
Ouramine O (yellow) used in dying textile, cotton, silk, paper and leather is found in some foods such as pickled tea, dried peas and bamboo shoot.
Rhodamine B (red and pink) is a chemical dye used in disease monitoring and dying textile, cotton, silk, paper and leather. Sudan dyes (red) is used in making slippers and leather. They are also found in chili powder.
