Correction from the Mae Tao Clinic on the frontier posting

The [him] moderator is sorry about posting incorrect information as published in the Nation. http://www.hivinfo4mm.org/blog/_archives/2007/2/18/2725605.html Thanks to the Mae Tao Clinic for pointing out the error.

********************************

In the article posted in HIM 265, it is incorrectly stated that the Mae
Tao Clinic has an anti-retroviral treatment program.

In fact, MTC does not have an ARV program for migrants. There are VCT
and PMTCT programs as well as support services for people in the area
living with HIV infection but the clinic does not provide ARVs.

We continue to have discussions with community partners, including the
Thai Public Health Service, on how best to initiate anti-retroviral
therapy to HIV infected migrants along the border. Undertaking such a
program however is a major commitment that must be done responsibly with
guarantees of sustainable funding that have not yet developed. Hopefully
ARV therapy will be an option for those who need treatment. However it
is not clear whether MTC will in fact be the provider or instead partner
with another agency better equipped to actually operate the program.

It is unfortunate that the author did not verify the statements in this
article with the clinic and we regret any misunderstandings that may
have resulted from its publication.
