HIV Hotline Initiative Group will provide discounted antiretroviral treatment to 250 people living with HIV, spokesperson Ma Aye Mya Thida said last week.

According to United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) data, approximatley 240,000 people live with HIV, and about 30,000 of the 74,000 who need ART currently receive it.

Ma Aye Mya Thida said ART cost from K30,000 to K200,000 a month depending on the health of the person taking it.

“We hope to offer a 30 percent discount [on ART] to 250 people who are not receiving any ART support from NGOs,” she said.

She added that the program was open to people outside Yangon, as the group would send ART via express post and the money can be sent via bank transfer.

HHIG offers online counseling to people living with HIV. Those seeking more information should email myowunna.tun@gmail.com or ayem.thida@gmail.com.
