Discussion on drugs in Yangon

Remember this article on the Yangon regional parliament discussion about drugs? Were any decisions ever taken.

http://www.irrawaddy.com/burma/rangoon-division-parliament-demands-crackdown-on-drugs.html

One reader made the following relevant comment:

"In the Irrawaddy it is reported that Yangon lawmakers are arguing for heavy punishment and death penalty for drug offenses like in China and Indonesia.

The death penalty for drug offenses is actively opposed by the UNODC.
It is illegal under international law
The overwhelming scientific evidence that drug policies aimed at criminalization have had serious negative effects globally on the health of drug users and the wider public.

Discussions on capital punishment undermine the already poor enabling environment and urgently needed expansion of evidence based public health interventions such as harm reduction."
