Myanmar targets a zero AIDS/HIV infections and discrimination by 2015

Myanmar is making a strenuous effort for a five year plan from 2011-2015 to fight AIDS/HIV. With the help and support of various media groups, this will eliminate discrimination as well as lessen the possibility of transmitting HIV in other people, according to a news report by Xinhua.

Their main objective is to obtain health care management to people who are infected with these deadly infections and to attain greater prevention of HIV. This is also aimed to achieve a zero number of discrimination, zero to HIV infection and death caused by AIDS and this is to be achieved by the year 2015, it said in a report.

Since preventive measures and health care treatments had been dealt with successfully it is important that the populace should cooperate in as much as the professionals and experts are doing their responsibilities and obligations.

This plan will be greatly achieved if all the parties will join hands in working together as a team for the years to come otherwise what they have started as a success will just go to waste and will experience same outbreak, said Xinhua by citing from participants in the discussion held in Yangon on Tuesday.

The meeting were attended by includes some celebrities, high ranking officials from the ministry, and members from local community, civil society and UN agencies.

Participants are appealing to the international community to help raise the amount of 10 million to 59 million per year to continuously implement the planned strategy of combating HIV/AIDS for five years. They believe that with enough funding, intelligence and new research and studies will lead in achieving a 100% of their goal of eliminating the 3 zero’s.

People behind this program are certain that the media plays a very vital role in disseminating accurate information to the public and authorizing the efforts of different sectors to utilize domestic and international available resources. Media also are capable of providing truthful representation in accordance with an accepted standard.

It’s been more than 20 years since Myanmar reported the first HIV case in 1988 and in 1991 the first AIDS case was reported. In terms of AVR treatment there was a big considerable rate of progress from year 2006 to 2010.

With the strict and relentless efforts done HIV occurrence among key areas dropped significantly on all genders and drug related cases. An increase among pregnant women who undergo and received HIV and post-test counselling during 2007 to 2010 was also recorded.
