Draft report of the NCDs commission

Have you seen the disappointing draft of the report by the WHO High Level Commission on NCDs?

A few comments:

1) The goal posts have been moved. The long list of WHO-endorsed Best Buys has been reduced to just five. Are these the best Best Buys? Does implementation of these Best Buys have the greatest impact on DALYs? Why not put *all* the Best Buys in order of priority?

2) Food appears to be completely neglected as long as sodium is reduced and transfats are eliminated.

3) "Governments should give priority to restricting the marketing of health-harming products to
children." Why stop at children? Why not restrict of the marketing of health-harming products? Isn't this a critical role of all governments.

4) A countdown is the only new accountability mechanism proposed. An opportunity missed.

Sigh.
