World AIDS day Dec 1st 2010
Today was world aids day, this year dedicated to promoting human rights around the world. I didn’t realise that this was such a big deal in Mae Sot (possibly this is due to me living on planet vix most of the time {its a nice planet, you should visit}). I was amazed as I passed a huge march on my way to work and more amazed to discover a stage and whole area set up at the clinic. How cool is that!
My fav sign is this one picturing a squid (cephalopod)with a condom on each tentacle being proudly held aloft by one of the school students. (I think they’ve been “pharyngulated” by PZ myers, his reach is great indeed)
I loved the dancing and the feel of celebration while getting an important message across.
I loved the educational aspects and the community involvement. It was a fantastic way to raise awareness especially with young people.
And in stark contrast….. and this
Everyone, everywhere should have access to prophylactic drugs, condoms and adequate treatment without fear of prejudice and condemnation. Everyone, Everywhere should be aware of there “status” as STI rates soar among the blasé young and older generation, who weren’t brought up in the shadow of the tombstone advert campaign, each person needs to be responsible – yes you could have been infected too, think about it. Annie Lennox has a great T-shirt to provoke discussion –HIV positive
That’s all folks 😉 have a good day.
P.s- If the HIV blog dude copies this post as it happens to mention HIV, Burma and a clinic – Hi to the traffic he sends my way…. I hope you enjoy this positive experience.
