Health ministry recruits new doctors

The health ministry will recruit new doctors for 1,000 vacant posts under the government’s 100-day initiative.
On April 4, the health ministry recruited 1,000 assistant doctors and research officers and 42 dentists via state-run newspapers.
In Myanmar, the doctor-population ratio is six to 10,000, according to the WHO. According to figures from the end of 2015, the country has over 32,000 doctors, and the health ministry employs 10,000. According to the ministry, the country, which has a population of over 50 million, has 1,065 hospitals—32 specialist hospitals, six teaching and general hospitals, one 1,000-bed hospital, two 500-bed hospitals, five 300-bed hospitals, 34 200-bed hospitals, two 150-bed hospitals, 42 100-bed hospitals, 79 50-bed hospitals, 183 25-bed hospitals, 10 16-bed hospitals and 670 station hospitals.
Yangon Region, with a population of over seven million, has 78 hospitals and 10,505 beds.
The health ministry employed 8,967 doctors in the 2010-2011 fiscal year, 10,243 in 2011-2012, 11,338 in 2012-2013, 12,053 in 2013-2014 and 12,866 in 2014-2015.
In addition, the ministry appointed 18,676 nurses in 2010-2011, 23,648 in 2011-2012, 26,437 in 2012-2013, 27,790 in 2013-2014 and 30,973 in 2014-2015.
Up to the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the health ministry has employed 674 dentists and 407 dental nurses.
