More than 100,000 healthcare personnel to be vaccinated for seasonal flu (H1N1) free of charge

More than 100,000 government healthcare personnel will be vaccinated for seasonal flu (H1N1) free of charge this year, said Dr Saw Win, vice chair of the Advisory Committee on National Level Immunization Work.
The government cannot afford to vaccinate the entire population every year and it had decided to give priority to healthcare personnel because they have a higher risk of being infected by patients and of transmitting the flu to pregnant women, children and the elderly they meet in their work.
Nearly 800 people were infected by H1N1 in Myanmar between May and October last year, of whom 118 died.
The World Health Organizations suggests that vaccinations for H1N1 be given to pregnant women, children under five, the elderly, people with chronic disease or weak immune systems, and healthcare personnel.
