Kraus/Mastro presentation

There are several issues to discuss about the presentation authored by Steve Kraus and Tim Mastro at the recent ICAAP.

Page 3 - The aggregate number of new infections or incidence has not decreased in the last five years. Aggregate numbers of new infections are not very useful. Local data on new infections in subpopulations are.

Page 4 - The scales on these bar charts are not the same. This distorts the picture. Intercountry comparisons are difficult enough to make without confusing bar chart scales.

Page 12  - If "The most successful HIV prevention efforts have used a combination approach." then why do UNAIDS and WHO continue to tout Thailand's 100% Condom Use campaign as a successful programme for others to emulate? It did certainly not use a combination approach.

Page 14 - This is NOT Asian data.

Page 18 - Treatment as prevention has only been shown to be a game changer for serodiscordant couples.

Page 21 - This is NOT Asian data.

Page 26 - There is only one example of text messaging increasing testing rates in Asia. Who decided that MSM websites need to be a focus?

And on three slides, testing and counselling is listed as a prevention intervention. Almost all HIV testing has no impact on HIV incidence.
