Many agenda items for the political commitment meeting

Here is a comment from an anonymous reader on the Mizzima news report yesterday.  Thanks!

"They haven't done justice to the dissemination meeting. It was not a project, not a funding commitment, nor a workshop about a five-year plan to continue providing 'ARV drug treatment'.

While promoting a new phase of national strategic plan, the meeting was about mobilizing political commitment: e.g. the minister reaffirmed support to the response, pointed out the need for PMCT, purportedly committed to try for more resources from the national budget; it was about facilitating collaboration and coordination: e.g. the drug dependency treatment and research unit manager welcome partners' inputs into the revision of the national guidelines on methadone maintenance therapy, an education official called for NGOs to assist school teachers (if invited locally) in providing life-skills and healthy living eduction for their students in accordance with the existing curriculum; and it was about sharing and networking among current and potential partners: e.g. among departments, affected communities, ministries, NGOs, key populations, and civil society groups.

ARV, although its importance and "essentialness" agreed by all stakeholders in the response, and although it is usually the only item of interest for people who are politically programmed and are looking everything with politically-coloured lens, was not the main item of the meeting."
