The national health policy will be redrafted at the end of this year and drafting is set to be completed before the first half of 2020, according to the ministry of health and sports.

The amended version will highlight nine points including prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases, according to a coordination meeting on the redrafting of the national health policy held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 18.

"The current national health policy was drawn in 1993. So it is necessary to have a new policy that suits the changing political, economic and health conditions. A leading committee tasked with drafting the policy has been formed. A work committee and advisory committees will also be formed. Drafting will finish in early 2020," said Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe.

The meeting stressed the need for a new policy to be compatible with Myanmar's sustainable development projects, the millennium development goals, Myanmar's health visions in 2030 and the global health visions.

The new policy will focus on health awareness promotion, prevention and treatment of non-infectious diseases, school health, patient safety and practical research, turning out of qualified and skilled medical experts, government-private cooperation, development of health and hospital information and physical exercise.
