DKT International registers lifesaving medicine Miso-Fem

Miso-Fem is a misoprostol medicine used for the treatment of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) as well as treatment for incomplete abortions. DKT has completed the registration of Miso-Fem with Myanmar's Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Miso-Fem is now available and accessible to healthcare service providers throughout the country. According to latest data, 10% of all maternal deaths in Myanmar is due to abortion. But this figure is on the lowside according to Dr. Sid Naing, a medical professional working in Myanmar's SRH sector, and puts the figure to as high as 35% for deaths caused by infections post-abortion. UNFPA lists that the foremost causes of maternal death are PPH and the consequences of unsafe abortion together with other medical conditions.

"Miso-Fem is an important life-saving medicine for Myanmar. It is a registered medicine with gynaecological indications and will be an important factor in reducing maternal mortality rate in the country." said Dr. Su Mon Thaw, DKT International's marketing head in Myanmar.
