Myanmar Global AIDS Response Progress Report 2015

The 2015 Myanmar Global AIDS Response Progress Report has been posted on the AIDS Data Hub site. You can download it at http://www.aidsdatahub.org/sites/default/files/publication/Myanmar_narrative_report_2015.pdf. It is also one of the few documents on the UNAIDS Myanmar site. http://www.unaids.org/sites/default/files/country/documents/MMR_narrative_report_2015.pdf.

The major failing of the national response to HIV in Myanmar is the failure to address the expanding epidemic among people who inject drugs. Prevalence among both young and older PWID is increasing. And the report is full of excuses rather than reasons for not addressing the issue. As the report so carefully puts it: "While overall the coverage of HIV prevention and harm reduction programmes for PWID is expanding, questions about whether programmes are having the desired effects remain." There is no question in my mind. The programme is failing.

The GARPR report references the "HIV Estimates and Projections Myanmar, AEM Dec 2014". This report has never been posted on the UNAIDS or AIDS Data Hub websites. Why not?
