Today [him] begins a series entitled NAP Annual Review. It is based on powerpoint presentations from the National AIDS Programme Annual Review 30 October through 2 November 2007 that have been sent to him by several sources over the last couple of months.
These presentations are big and cannot be sent by email. They can only be downloaded from the [him] website http://www.hivinfo4mm.org .
Let's begin with PMCT. His readers know how critical he has been of this showcase programme in the past.
The first presentation reveals that South Dagon township has an HIV prevalence of 2% among the seventy per cent of pregnant women who are seen for antenatal care. Looks like a generalised epidemic to [him].
And almost all of these women consent to HIV testing. Was it opt in or opt out? If it is opt in then there is no need to change this practice.
Finally, there is no data presented on how many HIV positive women adopted family planning methods after they were found to have HIV. Prevention of unwanted pregnancies among HIV positive women, it is noted on the last slide, can prevent mother to child transmission. Why isn't the contraceptive prevalence rate of the positive women who have given birth included in a presentation on the links between reproductive health and PMCT?
