Background
HelpAge International is a global network of not-for-profit organizations with a mission to work with and for disadvantaged older people worldwide to achieve a lasting improvement in the quality of their lives. HelpAge has been present in Myanmar since 2008 and has supported the formation of over 200 older people self-help groups and inclusive village development committees in Mandalay, Sagaing, Ayeyarwaddy and Yangon Regions as well as in Kayin and Mon States. HelpAge also closely works with the Ministry of Social Welfare to expand social protection in Myanmar and develop the Older People’s Act and the National Plan of Action on Ageing. More recently, HelpAge has also been collaborating with the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Health.
In 2014, the European Union approved a proposal submitted by HelpAge and three co-applicants for the call for proposals titled Supporting Public Health Institutes (Investing in People). The four-year project is called Strengthening public health capacity to respond to Myanmar’s disease transition. The co-applicants are Myanmar’s University of Public Health (UPH) and University of Medicine 2 (UM2), and the Thammasat University (TU) Faculty of Public Health in Thailand. The objective is to strengthen the UPH and wider health stakeholders to support evidence-based policy and improved health services, particularly in preparation for the transition towards non-communicable diseases in Myanmar. The project will build national evidence, knowledge and collaborations in order to help integrate non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health into the mainstream of national health policy dialogue and service delivery, and also the institutional capacity needed to support that agenda.
Job purpose: Coordinate all activities of the University of Medicine 2 in the project and support other activities of the project as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate attendance and help facilitate meetings related to health policy, learning exchanges, project oversight/review, etc.
Coordinate national STEPS on NCD and WHS Plus study 2019
Coordinate enabler and barrier of PEN service utilization
Coordinate research dissemination workshops
Coordinate development of NCD mobile application
Support project partners in other activities when necessary.
Manage all project and financial reporting and financial requests on behalf of UM2
Person Specification
· Myanmar national with university degree in relevant field or other relevant fields
Experience of working in health intervention projects, preferably with a focus on NCDs
Experience in facilitating meetings and workshops
High level of interpersonal, written, oral communication and presentation skills
· Computer literate and good report writing skills
· Ability to work effectively in a team with from various cultures and professional backgrounds
· Fluent in English language
· Ability to travel within Myanmar and abroad
