When "prevention of mother to child infection" was in its infancy, the single drug nevirapine was given to mothers and babies to decrease the chance of mother to child infection. Those days are long past. The days of single and double therapy for people with HIV infection are also gone.
These days it is better to get pregnant women three drugs for their own health and the health of their children. The 2010 UNGASS report states that over one hundred women were still given the one drug nevirapine in 2009. The UNICEF country plan still refers to only one drug. If Myanmar is still using only one drug then this is substandard care.
