HIV estimates and projections for the new year

It is time we reminded ourselves of estimates and projections for 2013. They are published in "HIV Estimates and Projections, Asian Epidemiological Model, Myanmar 2010-2015", by the Strategic Information and M&E Working Group of the Technical and Strategy Group on AIDS. This is not only a governmental body.

119,467 men, 69,489 women and 188,956 total people over 15 are living with HIV. So now 0.47 % of the population over 15 years old is living with the virus.

This year there will be about 7,000 new infections, over half of them among people who inject drugs, among men who have sex with men, and in sex work situations.

119,621 people living with HIV now need antiretroviral treatment. Fifteen thousand people will die.
