The Global Network of People Living with HIV and the World AIDS Campaign are pleased to announce the Young People Living with HIV Consultation

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS TO ATTEND YPLHIV CONSULTATION

Date: 7-9 June, 2010 - Meeting Location: Netherlands

Young people living with HIV (YPLHIV) represent a large proportion of the community of people living with HIV (PLHIV). There are many initiatives that have been aimed at clearly articulating the needs of PLHIV, and ensuring PLHIV have the tools and support to advocate for the change that they need. However YPLHIV have rarely been given the opportunity to articulate their own needs and shape a strategy for addressing these needs themselves.

GNP+ and WAC are convening a face-to-face consultation for approximately 30 to 35 young people living with HIV (aged between 16 and 30). The consultation will provide the space for YPLHIV from all over the world to explore these issues together and develop consensus on how to move forward.

An e-consultation will take place before the face-face consultation (26 April – 14 May) to identify the issues for discussion during the face-face consultation.
We encourage all interested applicants to become a member of the YPLHIV group in the Positive Community http://community.gnpplus.net. This platform will be used to hold the e-consultation to contribute to the agenda of the face to face consultation.

More information will be forthcoming about the e-consultation.

The face-to-face consultation is the continuation of a consultative process which will be sustained and contribute to the development and/or adaptation of YPLHIV responsive policies and programmes.

The three main objectives of the face-to-face consultation will be:
1. To develop a report documenting the consultation process (including the e-consultation);

2. To develop position papers which articulate the needs of YPLHIV and set out key actions at programme and policy level;

3. To establish an advisory group, which will provide ongoing support to GNP+ and WAC for their YPLHIV programmes.

The process, agenda and content of the consultation is being driven and developed exclusively by YPLHIV.

Who can Apply?

Young people (within the age of 16 to 30) from all countries and regions who are living with HIV are encouraged to apply. You must be comfortable speaking openly in a safe space about your experiences living with HIV.
