In a bid to ease the sufferers, the Specialist Hospital (Mingaladon) in Mingaladon Township is on the agenda to switch into a major health facility to treat the AIDS patients, it was learnt.

Meanwhile, the patients blown into AIDS and persons infected with HIV are being accepted as inpatients at the Specialist Hospital (Mingaladon). The hospital is 100-bed hospital.

With the assistant provided by the Daewoo Corporation, the Specialist Hospital in Mingaladon Township was inaugurated in May 2007. Currently, about 140 patients are receiving Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART).

"The Waibargi Specialist Hospital is treating over 1000 patients with ART drugs, while the Mingaladon Specialist Hospital is managing over 140 sufferers with the same treatment. The recently expanded Mingaladon Hospital is accommodating them as inpatients. An agenda is already set to switch the hospital to mainly treat the AIDS patients," a responsible person of the Ministry of health said.

In the meantime, the Waibargi Specialist Hospital on Maydawi Road in North Okkalapa Township is treating the contagious diseases including AIDS patients, and now, the freshly expanded Mingaladon Specialist Hospital is also giving treatment to the virus infected patients.

The Contagious Disease Hospital (Waibargi) would be gradually shifted in stages to the Specialist Hospital (Mingaladon); the infected patients may take treatment at the nearest hospital. The necessary management and logistic support have been chalked out to receive more number of AIDS patients at the Specialist Hospital (Mingaladon), it was learnt.
