Presentations from border health conference

In a previous posting the [him] moderator asked if any readers had the presentations to share from the border health conference she talks about. The ones related to HIV are downloadable below. Thanks to an anonymous [him] reader for sending them.

Dr Soe Naing's presentation shows MSF TB programme from 2005. In fact it started in mid 1999 as a general health programme for migrants including TB. From then to now Mae Tao Clinic has been a first contact for many patients crossing the border but they do no microscopy and do not treat any outpatients for TB. Previously all were referred to MSF. Now the search for treatment is more uncertain with no explanation given as to the fate of 50 patients and those "refered to Burma" being equaly uncertain.
KoKo is a Karen area dominated by the Burma army and their collaborators who seized the surrounding area in fighting at Easter 2006. The assasins of Man Shah drove from here to Mae Sot on Valentine's day 2008. The "ongoing peace" process there is the calm of a military oppression, and Burmans dominate the health situation too. A new casino there is probaly a poor cover for a bar and brothel. Perhaps it really is a good place to study HIV.
