Prioritisation

It is best to determine who will receive the Covid19 vaccine first, who will get it second, who will get it third, and so on, before deciding who will administer it.

The Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) will grant permits to private hospitals and clinics after laying down its guidelines to administer the already approved COVID-19 vaccines.

MOHS will grant private hospitals and clinics administer COVID-19 vaccines at the earliest after issuing its guidelines. In doing so the Ministry of Health and Sports will ensure that no other vaccines of less potential will be used. This is to be done in co-operation with the Internal Ministry, the Customs Department, and relevant departments and organizations. The COVID-19 vaccine that will be administered in Myanmar are those that have been approved by the WHO or the FDA of the country concerned, or those approved for emergency use by the country that produces the vaccines. No other vaccine of less potential will be permitted, as learnt from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

In choosing the vaccines for use the Ministry of Health and Sports takes into consideration that the after effects of the vaccine are minimal, the transportation of the vaccine is in keeping with the conditions of the country, that the vaccine is effective not only when tested in the lab, but effective outside if it, the number of times the vaccine has to be administered, and the effectiveness to prevent disease, and on the recommendation by the experts from the vaccine production central committee.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on 24th Dec that the Myanmar delegation and the Indian Government responsible persons had discussed the matter regarding the obtaining of COVID-19 vaccine.

In meeting with the Indian government responsible personnel discussions were made for the obtaining of COVID-19 vaccines on a G to G agreement in early 2021 and to the purchase of the vaccine from the Indian Serum Institute company.
