Seventh International Human Rights Colloquium
The VII Colloquium seeks a diverse range of young activists and academics interested in peer learning and in contributing to the construction of collaboration networks among nongovernmental organizations, universities and the United Nations.
The annual International Human Rights Colloquium is a one-of-a-kind forum that brings together scores of human rights activists and academics for a week each year to learn from their peers and experts in the field, obtain a fresh perspective on their work, and lay the foundation for professional alliances down the road (networking). The Colloquium creates a multiplier effect that benefits both the participants and their organizations.
The objective of the VII International Human Rights Colloquium is to strengthen the impact of human rights activists and academics work in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
The Colloquium offers lectures, seminars and working groups. Through these exchanges, human rights professors and specialists work intensively to develop their knowledge and ideas related to the Colloquium’s permanent theme – “Strengthening Human Rights in the South”. In the morning sessions, participants will attend lectures, while in the afternoon sessions, they will take part in workshops and working groups. (See Program)
The VII Colloquium seeks a diverse range of young activists and academics interested in peer learning and in contributing to the construction of collaboration networks among nongovernmental organizations, universities and other social actors. Consequently, special attention will be given to selecting participants.
The Colloquium seeks to reinforce the participation of vulnerable groups, as well as of those who have greater difficulties in accessing information. Therefore, criteria such as race, gender, and regional/social origin will be taken into consideration during the selection process.
Following notification of approval, selected candidates should prepare her or his participation in the Colloquium.
To continue working together after the Colloquium, participants will be invited to join the HRDialogue, a network that today includes more than 633 human rights activists in more than 40 countries. (See History)
The Colloquium was organized during its first three years by the Human Rights University Consortium, which included the University of Sao Paulo, the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo and Columbia University in New York. Conectas Human Rights also assisted in its organization.
Since the IVth Colloquium, the event has been organized primarily by Conectas Human Rights together with SUR – Human Rights University Network.
