Sport has to go somewhere

Is the incidence or prevalence of noncommunicable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and mental disorder decreased by sport? How much?

The name change is needed because the number of ministries was decreased and someone wanted to keep sport. It has to go somewhere.

The ministers of health and ethnic affairs, which was only established in April, proposed changes to their ministries' names on May 18.

The Ministry of Health would be changed to the Ministry of Health and Sport and the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs to the Ministry of Ethnic Races Affairs.

Minister Dr Myint Htwe said the essence of the sport and health were related as only the healthy could play sport, which in turn boosted health. The rate of non-transmitted diseases like cardiac, diabetes, hypertension and mental disorder would be decreased if schools promoted the spirit of sport, he said.

The ethnic affairs minister Naing Thet Lwin said the name had to be changed in accord with the law of protecting the rights of ethnic groups enacted in February 2015. The ministry was newly created by the National League for Democracy when it came to power last month.
