Background: The National AIDS (NAP) and Tuberculosis Programs (NTP) in Myanmar are collaborating in a national response to prevent and control TB/HIV co-infection since 1995. To implement TB/HIV activities at township level, a “minimum package” was developed by NAP, NTP, in collaboration with WHO and The Union.

Project: The package is meant to guide the district/township health staff in the implementation phase. The main objective is to reduce the burden of TB/
HIV through the implementation of a joint TB/HIV strategy, improving the health status and survival of TB/HIV patients and preventing transmission to their family and communities according to global TB/HIV initiative. It highlights the prevention interventions and shares the responsibilities. Both programs provide advocacy, trainings, health education, infection control, recording and monitoring and supervision. NTP is responsible for HIV testing, cotrimaxazole prophylaxis (CPT), TB screening for HIV patients, and HIV preventive services. NAP is responsible for intensified TB case-finding, Isoniazid Preventive Therapy (IPT) and comprehensive care for PLHIV. Main indicators are proportion of TB patients received HIV testing, CPT, IPT, comprehensive package of care including ART and proportion of PLHIV screened for TB.

Conclusion: The proposed framework will facilitate TB/HIV activities implementation at township level including the three ‘I’s.
