Two die of HIV/ AIDS in each hour in Myanmar
Published on Sunday, 09 December 2012 04:55

Every two persons died from HIV/ AIDS in every hour in Myanmar, said Khine Mar Swe from Myanmar Positive Group (National PLHIV Network) on December 1.

She also said during the celebration for World AIDS Day 2012,  organised by seven CBOs, that their NGO will take measures to reduce the number  till  zero.

Myanmar Positive Group was established in 2006, which former name was GIPA Initiative Group. The organisation is supported by International HIV/ AIDS Alliance and UNDP.

Its objective is to promote the role of people living with HIV/ AIDS and to give them a better atmosphere in society.

According to the data  and researches of MPG, 30 percent of the people living with HIV/ AIDS cannot take part in community activities whereas 15 percent are refused to their family affairs. Besides, 41 percent are rebuffed in employment.

Such kind of unfair treatments to people living with HIV/ AIDS make them feel as the guilty ones or, they even are suffered from suicidal risk.

Discrimination against AIDS patients is the main barrier to the prevention and treatment of HIV/ AIDS. Main modes of infection in the nation are Intravenous Drug Users and sex workers.

Over 20 adults in Myanmar are infected the disease daily, according to the report.

Myanmar is one of the highest adult HIV prevalence rate in Asia, followed by Thailand and Cambodia.
