More than 1.5 million people are given a single dose of COVID-19 and about 340,000 people are given second vaccine dose till April 21 and people over 60 years old are giving priority for the vaccine, according to Central Contagious Disease Prevention and Eradication Sub-Department under the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS).
The ministry is continuing vaccination program in regions and states and according to a study, the vaccination has been shown to prevent the spread of the disease and to reduce the severity of the disease. The vaccination program is continued to prevent another wave of the disease, said Union Minister for the MOHS.
The COVID-19 vaccine injected in Myanmar is Covishield produced by Serum Institute of India patented by Oxford University and Astra Zeneca.
The union minister said they are difficult to figure out the spread of the disease as they don’t have enough health workers to perform COVID-19 tests.
A total of 1,103 samples are tested between April 20 and 21 and found 13 new patients. 2,561,910 samples are tested till April 20 and the number of COVID-19 confirmed patients is reached to 142,674, according to the MOHS.
