Dear Him Moderator,
By way of response to the first question below:
As a medical humanitarian organisation, MSF makes comments and speaks out
on the basis of what we directly witness through our medical activities. We
thus refrain from making generalized comments outside our sphere of
experience and competence, in the case of the joint statement, comments
related to social and economic policies. However we do appreciate the
initiative taken by the organizations that signed and we share many of
their concerns. We strongly support the part of the statement that calls
for greater humanitarian assistance in Myanmar. MSF is one of the main
providers of medical services for HIV/AIDS, STIs and malaria in Myanmar but
what we provide, together with the other operational agencies, is a small
fraction of what is needed. We also remain concerned that the authorities
geographically limit the scope of our activities. We have also, like other
organizations, faced obstacles in accessing some of the most vulnerable
populations in Myanmar and thus call for greater freedom in carrying out
our mission.
Please feel free to contact me for further clarification.
Best regards,
Joe
